AMPP Launches New CCUS Course Focused on Materials Selection and Corrosion Control
New AMPP eCourse provides practical guidance on materials selection, corrosion control and integrity management for CCUS infrastructure.

HOUSTON, TX, UNITED STATES, October 1, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- As carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) projects advance, transporting and storing captured carbon dioxide introduces materials and corrosion challenges that must be considered throughout the life of the infrastructure. The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP), the global authority in materials protection and performance, is launching a new online course to help engineers, integrity professionals and other industry stakeholders better understand and manage those risks.— Tim Gonzalez
The Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS): Materials Selection and Corrosion Control eCourse, available in mid-September, provides practical instruction on materials selection, corrosion control, pipeline integrity, operating environments and integrity risk management across CO₂ transport and storage systems.
The four-hour course is based on AMPP SP21632-2025, Materials Selection and Corrosion Control for Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) Projects. It connects AMPP standards with education professionals who can apply them to the design, operation and integrity management of CCUS infrastructure.
“CCUS is creating a new generation of infrastructure challenges, but the fundamentals of asset integrity remain critical,” said Tim Gonzalez, Vice President of Energy Integrity Solutions at AMPP. “Understanding how CO₂ operating environments affect materials, corrosion mechanisms and long-term performance is essential to making sound decisions throughout the life of these assets. This course gives professionals a practical way to build that knowledge using guidance grounded in AMPP standards and industry expertise.”
Participants will examine CCS transport and injection systems, design development, integrity operating windows, degradation mechanisms, materials selection, corrosion control, integrity risk management and monitoring and inspection. The course also incorporates real-world challenges and perspectives from industry professionals to help learners connect technical concepts with decisions encountered in the field.
“Our goal was to take the technical knowledge behind the standard and make it accessible in a format professionals can put to work,” said Taylor Evans, Education Portfolio Manager, Energy Sector at AMPP. “The eCourse gives learners the flexibility to explore the materials and corrosion issues associated with CCUS at their own pace while building a stronger understanding of how those considerations fit into design, operations and integrity management.”
The course is designed for corrosion engineers, materials engineers, asset integrity managers, pipeline design engineers and regulatory personnel. No prior training or experience is required, although an engineering or technical background, basic knowledge of corrosion principles, and familiarity with industrial infrastructure or pipeline systems are recommended.
The English-language eCourse takes approximately four hours to complete and provides four (4) Professional Development Hours (PDHs). Participants have access to the course for one year from the date of purchase, allowing them to complete the training at their own pace. Successful completion is required to earn a certificate of course completion.
The new course also reflects AMPP’s broader technical work addressing materials protection and performance in emerging energy technologies. AMPP’s Standards Committee 26 develops standards, guides and reports related to CCUS, alternative fuels and energy storage. At the same time, AMPP’s Carbon Capture and Storage Technical Community of Interest provides a forum for professionals examining phase behavior, corrosion mechanisms and rates, and materials selection in CO₂ separation, transport and storage.
